Qualified health claim for fatty acids

Qualified health claim for fatty acids: "Conventional foods will henceforth be able to display a qualified health claim for omega-3 fatty acids - previously restricted to supplements - the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced yesterday."

While it was not as far as food manufacturers wanted, it does let them do more than before.

"The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) welcomed the decision, but expressed its disappointment at the FDA’s failure to award a full, unqualified health claim to omega-3 and its ability to reduce the risk of CHD, for which they had petitioned.

"We continue to believe that the science is strong enough to warrant an unqualified health claim," said Annette Dickinson, president of the CRN"

Studies have found Omega-3 to be effective on everything from prostate cancer to heart disease, and strokes.
